The 2015 Melbourne Festival announcement has arrived today and in celebrating 30 years, the program is indeed reflective of a well-loved and respected event on the Australian arts calendar. From highly anticipated live shows from the likes of Laura Marling and The Fall, through to a brilliantly cast tribute performance to Patti Smith'sHorses, the Melbourne Festival this year is going to have people talking for sure.
Smith's iconic album Horses celebrates 40 years this year and for one special exclusive Australian performance at the Melbourne Town Hall, Courtney Barnett, Adalita, Jen Cloher and Gareth Liddiard will be performing the album in its entirety. Another collaboration not to be missed at the Melbourne Festival this year is that of Flight Facilities and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, who will be recreating the duo's five year journey and stellar career to date. In bringing debut album Down To Earth to the stage, Flight Facilities and the MSO will be welcoming special guests Owl Eyes, Katie Noonan and more (amongst more than 80 musicians) to the event at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl.
Among the highlights of the international contingent is Marling, who until this point, had left Melbourne mysteriously off her already announced Australian tour, as well as seminal British pop-punk act, The Fall, who will perform three intimate shows at the Foxtel Hub.
